A Growing, Highly-Rated School District

For families considering a move to Dripping Springs, Dripping Springs Independent School District (DSISD) is often a major draw and known for being a Destination District. Known for strong academics, extracurricular opportunities, and a close-knit community, DSISD has earned recognition as one of the top school districts in the Austin area and a major reason for why me and my family relocated from Austin to Dripping Springs.

The numbers help tell the story. DSISD serves approximately 8,800 students across nine campuses, with enrollment growing by nearly 3,000 students over the past decade. In 2026, all secondary campuses and five total schools earned an A rating in the annual Texas Education Agency (TEA) accountability ratings. Niche ranked DSISD among the top 25 school districts in Texas.

And the district is planning for what's next. In 2025, voters approved a $402.3 million bond package to support new facilities, campus improvements, and technology. Construction is underway on a second comprehensive high school near Darden Hill Road, designed to accommodate 2,500 students and scheduled to open for the 2028-2029 school year.

For parents relocating from Austin to the Texas Hill Country, that combination of academic performance, community involvement, and long-term investment in education makes Dripping Springs worth exploring. It's not just about finding a home with more space. It's about finding a community where your family can grow.

On a personal note, I'm one of those parents who moved to Dripping Springs for the schools, and I've been genuinely impressed. DSISD has helped each of my kids flourish in their own way, providing individualized support and resources to help them succeed. I especially appreciate how the elementary schools collaborate on curriculum and lesson planning, allowing teachers to share ideas, continually improve, and adapt to students' evolving needs. As both a parent and a local real estate advisor, I've experienced firsthand the level of care and attention this district puts into helping kids thrive.

Sports and Outdoor Activities

If your family loves spending time outdoors, Dripping Springs offers plenty of opportunities to get outside, stay active, and connect with the community. From competitive youth sports to hiking trails and swimming holes, there's no shortage of ways to keep kids busy (and burn off some energy!).

Youth sports are a big part of the Dripping Springs community. Families can get involved in Little League baseball and softball, youth soccer, football, basketball, volleyball, and cheerleading. Local organizations, school athletics, and recreational leagues offer opportunities for kids of different ages and skill levels to participate, build friendships, and develop teamwork.

And when it's time to trade the sports fields for some fresh air, the Texas Hill Country delivers. Families can explore Dripping Springs Ranch Park, enjoy playgrounds and walking trails at Founders Memorial Park, or head to nearby Pedernales Falls State Park for hiking, nature exploration, and beautiful Hill Country scenery.

Swimming is another favorite way to beat the Texas heat. Local destinations like Hamilton Pool Preserve and Blue Hole Regional Park in Wimberley offer memorable outdoor experiences, while nearby lakes and rivers provide even more opportunities for weekend adventures.

One of the biggest perks of raising a family in Dripping Springs is the balance between organized activities and outdoor adventure. Kids can spend Saturday mornings on the soccer field and Sunday afternoons exploring nature, all without venturing far from home.

For additional local detail, the City of Dripping Springs maintains approximately 571 acres of parkland, including the nearly 40-acre Sports and Recreation Park with soccer and baseball fields, basketball, sand volleyball, and walking trails. Dripping Springs Ranch Park also offers more than six miles of multi-use trails, equestrian facilities, and youth programs such as archery and nature camps.

Access to Nature and Hill Country Living

One of the biggest draws of living in Dripping Springs, Texas, is the Hill Country lifestyle. Rolling hills, majestic oak trees, wide-open spaces, and incredible sunsets create a setting that feels far removed from the hustle and bustle of Austin.

For families moving from Austin, the opportunity for larger homesites, more privacy, and room to spread out is often a major motivation. Depending on the neighborhood, that might mean a backyard big enough for a pool, space for kids to explore, a garden, or even a few acres with wildlife wandering through.

It's a different pace of life. More evenings watching the sunset, stargazing without as much city light, and enjoying the outdoors without having to plan an entire weekend around it.

The best part? You don't have to give up the conveniences of Austin. Dripping Springs offers access to Southwest Austin, Bee Cave, and downtown Austin for shopping, restaurants, entertainment, and employment. And with more restaurants, shops, and services opening locally, families have increasingly convenient options closer to home.

For families looking for a little more breathing room without completely disconnecting from city life, Dripping Springs offers a balance that's increasingly hard to find in Austin.

A Strong Sense of Community

One of the things that makes Dripping Springs, Texas, special is its small-town sense of community, even as the area continues to grow. It's the kind of place where you run into familiar faces at the grocery store, cheer on your neighbors' kids at sporting events, and quickly find opportunities to get involved.

Community traditions bring families together throughout the year. Local favorites like the Dripping Springs Founders Day Festival, Christmas on Mercer Street, and Dripping Springs Farmers Market create opportunities to connect with neighbors and support local businesses. Friday night football games, school fundraisers, and community celebrations are also a big part of life here.

Neighborhoods like Highpointe, Belterra, Parten, and Headwaters offer additional ways to build connections through community events, neighborhood amenities, and activities for residents. For families relocating from Austin, these established communities can make the transition easier, especially when kids are looking to make new friends.

What I love most about Dripping Springs is that despite its growth, there's still a genuine sense of connection. People show up for their schools, support local businesses, and take pride in their community. It's a place where families can put down roots and truly feel like they belong.

Is Dripping Springs Right for Your Family?

If you're looking for highly rated schools, an active family lifestyle, more room to grow, and a strong sense of community, Dripping Springs offers a compelling alternative to Austin living. With beautiful Hill Country surroundings and convenient access to the city, it's easy to see why so many families are choosing to call this area home.

As both a Dripping Springs resident, parent, and local real estate advisor, I've experienced firsthand what makes this community special. I also know that finding the right home is about more than square footage. It's about finding the right neighborhood, schools, lifestyle, and long-term fit for your family.
